A rashguard will be your best companion during training, but in return, it requires a little commitment to its care. Follow the tips below, and it will serve you through many more killer workouts.

Wash your rashguard after every training session

Remember to unpack it from your bag after every use! Sweaty clothes quickly start to smell, and getting rid of that stench is really tough. If you can't wash them right after getting back, put them in a bowl of water, add a bit of laundry detergent, and let them soak for a few minutes or overnight, then toss them in the washing machine in the morning.

How to wash a rashguard?

Wash your rashguard at a maximum of 30°C (86°F). Use mild detergents and don't overdo it with fabric softener. Harsh chemicals and stain removers can damage not only the print itself, but also the fiber structure. After washing, hang it on a drying rack and let it dry. Under no circumstances should you put it in a tumble dryer—unless you prefer a rashguard in a kid's size :)

Detailed information on how to wash your rashguard can be found on its care label.

Avoid Velcro

Open Velcro, rough surfaces, or jewelry have ruined many a rashguard. Although loose threads, snags, or mild pilling don't affect the rashguard's performance, they definitely ruin its look. So make sure the Velcro on your MMA shorts or gloves is always securely fastened, both during training and in your bag. If you plan to wash your rashguard with items that have Velcro, invest in a laundry bag to protect it from accidental snags. If any loose threads do appear, simply snip them off.

These same rules apply to workout gear in general, such as leggings, Vale Tudo shorts, or classic training tees. The key is washing after every use and following the instructions on the label.
