When the initial fascination with combat sports training turns into a serious pursuit, ensure your child's safety and equip them with solid training attire and gear. Here are tips that will make the choice easier.

Kids' rashguard is a must-have

Regardless of which combat sport you choose, a rashguard will be the foundation of the training outfit. Why a rashguard and not a cotton t-shirt? A rashguard acts like a second skin, protecting the epidermis from abrasions and wounds. It effectively wicks away sweat and maintains optimal body temperature. Plus, it doesn't roll up and always stays in place. In short, it boosts training comfort. Your little one can focus on executing techniques correctly instead of adjusting their t-shirt.

Leggings and training shorts

The lower part of the training attire must also be durable and tailored to the chosen sport. While classic cotton shorts work fine for the first few sessions, later on it's worth investing in leggings or shorts made from tear- and abrasion-resistant fabrics. Ground Game kids' leggings act like a second skin. They hug the body, protecting it from scratches and providing compression. Combat sports training shorts guarantee full freedom of movement.

What else will come in handy for training?

Heading to a BJJ training session, a young warrior will need a BJJ kimono/gi. If your child is starting boxing, Muay Thai, or MMA, they need equipment such as boxing gloves and shin guards. These will ensure safety during strikes and kicks, cushioning the impact force.

Boxing gloves for kids

Essential gear when you want to sign your child up for boxing classes. When choosing boxing gloves for a child, double-check whether the model is truly safe for small hands. What to look out for?

- Closure - check if the gloves feature a hook-and-loop (velcro) closure (a more convenient option than laced closures) and a wide wrist stabilization strap. This helps the child avoid injury even during heavier hits.

- Material - if your child is just starting their combat sports journey, feel free to pick synthetic leather gloves, like our "Prodigy" model. We use proven synthetic leather that is resistant to abrasions and cracking. If your little one takes training seriously and you want to provide them with top-shelf gear, check out the "Samurai" model made of genuine leather. We created it for young, committed warriors.

- Seams - preferably made with reinforced threads. This guarantees that the material won't split at the seams and the gloves will survive every workout session.

Kids' shin guards

Equally important when your child practices a kicking sport, such as Muay Thai. A shin guard protects your child's shins and feet, provided its construction and materials are solid :) When selecting shin guards, pay attention to similar parameters as with gloves. A hook-and-loop closure and a stabilizing strap ensure a perfect fit on your child's leg, preventing the guard from slipping during training. The padding's job is to absorb strikes, so make sure it is made of dense foam resistant to deformation and clumping.

Mouthguard for kids

Be sure to equip your child with a mouthguard to save them from an unexpected trip to the dentist. Regardless of the chosen combat sport, accidental blows to the teeth do happen. A properly fitted and worn mouthguard will absorb impact force and minimize the risk of damage to teeth, tongue, or jaw.
