Hand Wraps
( number of products: 17 )Boxing hand wraps, also known as boxing bandages or hand tapes, are a key piece of equipment for every athlete training in combat sports such as boxing, MMA, or Muay Thai. Ground Game wraps effectively minimize the risk of finger and wrist injuries and provide proper hand stabilization. Our offer includes both classic boxing bandages, e.g., solid-colored tapes, as well as colorful wraps.
What are boxing bandages for?
Boxing wraps are elastic or cotton strips of fabric wrapped around the hands and wrists before putting on gloves. They serve as the first line of protection for your hands. By stiffening them, they minimize the risk of injuries during strikes, such as bone fractures or thumb dislocations. Bandages have another task: they protect the inside of the gloves from sweat – you can easily keep them clean by washing them after every workout.
Are boxing wraps necessary?
Definitely yes! Properly selected boxing gloves provide the first level of hand protection, and boxing bandages are the next. They are worn under the gloves to better secure fingers and wrists against injuries; therefore, boxing wraps should not be treated as an accessory, but as a basic piece of equipment for anyone training striking sports like boxing, kickboxing, MMA, or Muay Thai.
Every fighter knows how easy it is to get injured during a fight in the ring or octagon. Even training on pads or a heavy bag can lead to unpleasant injuries whose complications last a long time and often limit or exclude training possibilities.
Which wraps to choose?
Boxing bandages should be properly fitted to the hand to ensure comfort and safety. When browsing our offer, you will notice that models differ in material and length. Which one to choose? Let's start with the material.
Boxing wraps are made of cotton, polyester, or a blend of both. Cotton bandages provide great stiffness and are durable but require skill in wrapping – if applied poorly, they loosen easily. Elastic polyester wraps are easy to put on and fit the hand well, but if over-tightened, they can restrict blood flow. Cotton-polyester blend tapes combine the advantages of both: they are durable, optimally elastic, and adhere perfectly to the hand.
Optimal length of boxing bandages
Length also matters. Boxing wraps can vary, usually from 2.5 m to 5 m. If they are too short, you won't wrap them correctly. If too long, you'll have trouble tucking them in. It is best to choose a 4 m length, which is considered universal. This allows for comfortable wrapping and proper hand protection.
Boxing wraps material
Elastic bandages are easier to fit to the hand. Cotton wraps require more precision. Therefore, the best choice is boxing tapes that contain both cotton and polyester. They are easy to adjust, durable, and resistant to deformation. They stably secure the wrists and hands of trainees. You can find polyester-cotton blend boxing tapes in the Ground Game offer.
Design and color of wraps
Design is a matter of taste. Do you prefer classic, solid-colored boxing wraps or colorful, patterned tapes? At Ground Game, we have prepared boxing bandages in various versions, so you can easily find your favorite model.
How to tie boxing wraps?
Tying boxing bandages quickly and correctly requires technique and practice. Check out our instructional video on how to wrap hands and wrists using traditional bandages: How to tie boxing bandages Thai style.
Remember to tie your boxing wraps before every training session or fight. Your hands and wrists will thank you for it! :)
Can boxing bandages be washed?
Dirty, sweaty wraps are a perfect environment for fungi and bacteria. If you want them to last, wash them regularly according to the instructions on the label and dry them flat. Avoid tumble dryers, which can shrink or deform them. Pro tip: wash them in a laundry bag so the Velcro doesn't snag other clothes and the washing machine doesn't "eat" them like socks.
Traditional bandages or gel gloves?
Besides traditional wraps, there are alternatives like gel gloves. Gel gloves, also known as inner gloves, perform the same function but are designed to protect hands even further. They are much faster and easier to put on than traditional bandages.
Additionally, they have a gel insert that maximizes knuckle protection and absorbs impact. However, remember they cannot be used alone during fights or training – without boxing gloves, they provide too little protection.
